Today there was no alarm clock. We decided a rest was required! We got up around 10am and went down to IHOP for brunch. Pancakes and waffles. Yummy!
We wandered over to the California Adventure park which is right next to Disney. No queues at all for anything. It was great! First up we went on the Soarin' over California ride. You get strapped into a seat and lifted into a wrap around cinema. You feel like you're para gliding over Californian mountains, ski fields, crops, rivers and waterfalls. It's really a fun ride, and very placid.
We went to Californa Screamin' where I sent the kids off to scream while I sat quietly. They had a blast! Sofie even went again, while Joe recovered. It's a really big rollercoaster that goes upside down, and produces lots of g force issues. Then we went over to the Ferris Wheel, where there was a choice of swinging or non-swinging gondolas. Of course the kids chose the swinging ones. Not a ride for those with a weak stomach. There I was thinking that the ride would be nice and calm, but it was in fact, terrifying. I thought the poor people on the opposite seats were going to end up with me in their lap at one point! Just before we got off, the people in the gondola before ours ejected a vomiting guy from their carriage. I was so glad we weren't getting out on that side!! Joe was feeling really queasy after that one so we sat for a bit and then wandered through some shops.
We headed for the Tower of Terror. The ride Sofie was busting to go on. On the way there were went through "a bug's life" area, where Joe spotted dodgem cars. Both the kids went on those, and Joe went twice.
Straight after that was the big Hollywood Tower. This ride is something I wouldn't go on in a million years. It basically imitates a broken elevator in a really tall building. Dropping and rising and doors opening and closing. Sofie though was keen, so she took Joe up with her and they both really loved that ride. I've been so impressed with how Joe is handling these scary rides. And he's really impressed that he's been tall enough for everything he wanted to do!
More shopping was had at Downtown Disney - a kind of mall in between the two parks. Then we ate dinner at Tortilla Jo's. A great Mexican restaurant. The enchiladas were divine!
After dinner we found a place called RideMakerz. Here you can build your own remote control car. You choose everything - the body, the wheels, tyres, custom hoods, spoilers, you name it!! The kids had a great time choosing all their bits and then building it. I think their favourite bit was using the powered screw drivers to put it all together. It was a pretty cool experience, plus they get to bring home their own custom car!
By this stage, even Joe was complaining his feet were sore, and I had developed my first blister. So we came back to the hotel. The plan is to head back for the 9.30 fireworks. We shall see!! Right now the kids are playing with their cars. Another great fun day, but far less energy was expended.
We went back for the 9.30 fireworks and I'm so knackered that I can't finish this blog today. Will post pics and more about fireworks tomorrow. So stay tuned for part 2!
We're up early tomorrow to catch the 9am bus to San Diego.
